connections

I just started reading Jane Eyre. It was kind of a slow start, but I am going to give it a chance. There is so much more to go so hopefully something actually happens in this book.

I was just thinking about Catcher in the Rye and already I have seen some similarities between the two books. Both books have some sort of death involved. In Catcher in the Rye Holden's little brother Allie died and in Jane Eyre both of her parents died. Also they both get sent to a type of boarding school.

The schools are totally different. Holden's school was a rich prep school. Very wealthy people went to that school. In Jane Eyre she is sent to a charity school for orphans. Everyone there is really plain. Since I am not that far into Jane Eyre I havn't made anymore connections yet, but those were just a few I noticed. They might not symbolise anything, but I thought maybe something could come of it.

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

  1. Kristi, I really like that you are starting to make connections between the two books. I think that Kunkle would be very happy to see that. :) haha but I noticed some of those similarities and differences too! Another thing I noticed is that both books have a character named Jane in them, I think I might go blog about that! Anyways, great post. I enjoyed reading it!

  2. Kristi, I agree! There are loads of similarities between Jane Eyre and Catcher in the Rye. They might not come to anything, but they are too similar to be left unnoticed. They also make me wonder if the similar themes are something that Kunkle really wants us to take away from this class! Keep up the good posts and my only recommendation would be to just double check spelling with the spell check tool. Other than that, good job! :)

  3. Well I didn't make any connections between the two books so I'm glad to see that someone did(: But the death of their family members in both the books seem to have a drastic effect on the rest of their life. Also it is intresting, the difference between the two main characters, Holden and Jane, because of their wealth and social class.
    Good Post!
